Review: Chalk for a Faux Highlight on Sisterlocks

9:35 AM

UPDATE - USE ONLY SOFT PASTEL AND DON'T USE ANY OTHER CHALK. I left this as a reference on how it will look with regular sidewalk chalk. The method on how to apply this is still the same. So check out the "how to" for this.

Doing this right involve a lot of work. So if you have time in your hand, and want to try something different with a range of colors, you may want to consider this as an option. Below are the review on using Chalk as an highlight option for Sisterlocks or Lock in general.

Claim
Bright, bold chalk includes exclusive Crayola crayon colors that wash away with water. Create big outdoor art on sidewalks and driveways with easy clean-up. Anti-roll shape keeps sticks handy and produces fine lines or broad strokes.

Like
- Easy Transfer
- Range of colors
- Easily found at a local store
- Doesn't Last Long
- Certain Color Last Longer
- Easy To Wash Out

Dislike
- Set Up & Application
- Doesn't look Natural
- Bleeds A lot
- Certain Color Fades Fast ( I didn't use a hair spritz though)
- Made My Hair Very Fizzy & Dry

Conclusion
I like this as a fun alternative to spice up my locks, but I really don't see me doing this at all in the future. I had high hope about getting my purple highlight from this, but the application was not as smooth as the spray from Jerome Russell. I also didn’t like that I was still shaking chalk dust off my hair even when my hair was dry. I also didn’t like the look of it on my locks, but many of my friends did. I won't be applying this on my locks again, but if you like the concept, you can check out the result of chalk on sisterlocks here. You can check out the how to for applying chalk here. NOTE: I didn't used the soft pastel chalk (commonly used) nor the hair chalk that is out there, so you may get better result, but I highly doubt it since it still chalk.
