How To: Pipe Cleaner II

10:00 AM

The fastest install of the Pipe Cleaner is still Version I. If you want to know how to create the pipe cleaner curler click here. I still found Version I having the tightest curl of them all. So if you looking for a much tighter curl definition, then Version I is it.

Material Needed
Pipe Cleaners
Setting Lotion
Spray Bottle
Step 1) Lightly sprays your locks with your spray bottle (please don't drench your locks, a light spray will do). I found my curls lasted, without a settling lotion, but if you feel the need for one, apply it here.
Step 2) Using the hoop area as your base & guide, slowing start wrapping a small amount of locks around the pipe cleaner. Make sure you are warping it upward covering the pipe cleaner as much as you can.
Step 3) Once you have reach the end of your scalp, you will bend the excess end.
Step 4) Do step 1-3 throughout your head. This will take about 1 hour to 2 hours to complete. I did this while watching TV, I suggest you do the same :).
To remove the pipe cleaners is simple. Latch on to the bend hoop area, and pull it through your locks. Note: I did a big hoop on the pipe cleaners on the picture as a sample. It doesn't need to be that big, and if you sisterlocks/dreadlocks are longer then mines, then you will need as much you can get from the pipe cleaners. 1. I wonder if I can use pipe cleaners now. My locs are quite short right now. Would love to have some curls right now.

  2. @Janay you should be able to have some curls. You may not be able to do this version but I don't see why you can do the first version of the Pipe Cleaners. The curl would be very tight though.

  3. Hi again! I love your site! Quick question...what exactly is the difference between versions I and II, and what is it that makes version I have tighter curls? The only thing I could guess is how you're rolling the locs up the pipe cleaner (version II seems to be rolled with precision, whereas version I seems kind of like a free for all)? TIA!

  4. LOL I'm glad you enjoy my site...Version II is rolled downward for a Shirley temple type of curls. While version I is rolled around the pipe cleaners like you would do a regular sponge roller. Doing it that way give each lock the ability to wrap tightly on the pipe cleaners vs. the downward method. I will have to revisit version I again because if I want to have that afro look that I achieve from Version I then that route is the only one available.
