My Current Fascination...

2:03 PM

Right now I’m desperate for products that will soften my Sisterlocks. I love my locks, but they are rough right now. My sisterlocks are approaching the one year mark. On my previous post, I talk about what I use on my sisterlocks for moisture, and the itchiness. One of the products I use just happens to soften my hair as well. Well I ran out of the “Next Image Avocado Oil & Shea Butter" last week and decided to do an experiment. I decided not to put any moisturizing spray on my sisterlocks for a week. The result was clear, my hair did become rough = (.

So now I'm on the hunt to find out what works best with my locks. I am heading out tomorrow to purchase my second bottle of Next Image Avocado Oil & Shea Butter and a conditioner. I haven’t been using any conditioner on my hair as advised by my consultant and that is all due to fear that my hair would not lock up as fast, but I came to a conclusion that most of my hair is locked, and if it take a little longer for the rest to lock, so be it. I can’t have my hair feeling so rough.

  1. Please can someone to me about fuzzie locks? I've been locked for almost 2 years (May 2010 is my lock date).
My consultant says the fuzzies should be cut off!!!! What do you think?

  2. What type of hair do you have? What product are you using on your hair? If you have very fine soft hair, then it may take longer than two years for your lock to stop being frizzy. As your hair continues to mature, it will continue to condense and the stray hair will continue to wrap itself around the locks. I would talk with your consultant again and try to avoid trimming the fizzy if that is not necessary.

  3. Kreyola,
Thank you so much for responding. At least once a month, I use Taliwad Shampoo; followed by Sisterlock Reconstructor (30 mins under a plastic cap); and I spritz every two days with a mixture of distilled water and 8 drops of rose water. When my hair is dry I spritz with a Virgin Olive Oil, 2 tablespoons of Sisterlock Reconstructor mixture in distilled water. My hair is soft and was very thin when I got the locks installed in May 2010. They are growing and thickening up and I believe they are maturing nicely. Several people have said to be patient and wait it out. I just don't want to trim them. My consultant has not researched this at all and I have. I know my hair. She only sees it every 5 weeks.

  4. Your hair is soft and with softness comes slow maturity as far as locks are concern. If the fizziness bothers you a lot, then you will have to do without the Sisterlock Reconstructor or the oils. Go back to the basic as far shampoo goes (something that removes the oils from your locks). Also only spritz your hair with water. Your hair will start to be rougher, and dryer, but that will help your locks mat faster around the individual locks. If you have a problem with dry locks then you going to have to wait it out as your locks slowly mature with the oils etc. you are adding.

  5. Kreyola - you are a Godsend! Thanks, I will do without the Sisterlock Reconstructor. My scalp itches too much not to have SOME oil. What about coconut oil after shampooing on scalp only? Also only spritzing with water.

    Thank You!!!

  6. You Welcome!! Putting some oil on your scalp is fine. I would suggest Jojoba since that one is much lighter than the Coconut Oil. If you do have coconut oil that is fine as well. The main area you want to be a little dryer is your older mature locks. Also keep in mind that your hair will always appear fizzy after a wash, wait a couple days to see how well your taming of fuzziness is doing. Take pictures, because that will help you know that you are meeting your goals.

  9. I still have an itchy scalp and it not as bad as before but it still there. I'm willing to try anything now. So far Head & Shoulder ease the problem but it doesn't permanently fix the issue.
